Talking Turkey with Sara Robinson
We found Sara in the midst of an adventure when we contacted her to participate in this Talking Turkey! She is a Western Australia mum of two who has recently sold the family farm and is travelling around Australia to explore and spend more time with her husband and kids. Even out on the road, Sara loves to prepare delicious meals incorporating turkey.
Why do you like cooking with turkey?
Turkey is so versatile and healthy. We love the taste and the texture of the meat and are always finding new ways to cook turkey from yummy stir-frys to traditional roasts—there is rarely leftovers when turkey is being served!
What is your favourite turkey cut?
I love nothing more than cooking a whole turkey. Cooking a whole bird reminds me of old time family get togethers where no one ever left the table hungry. I cook mine on the barbeque with traditional vegetables and gravy.
Do you have any handy tips to pass onto other Today’s Turkey readers?
I will only baste a few times during cooking my large birds, as opening the oven door tends to let the heat out and the bird doesn’t cook evenly. Besides, a self basting bird makes your work minimal!
